Labor Day Weekend could not have come at a better time. Us Hakes' were in much need of quality family time. And we got it.
We went to Oklahoma City on Saturday afternoon. Just Joel and I and the girls. We checked into our favorite hotel chain (Embassy Suites) because they have 2 rooms, which means that Joel and I can put the girls down and sit out in the living room area and watch TV or just talk instead of remaining silent so as not to wake up the girls. After we checked in and checked out the pool, we headed to downtown OKC, otherwise known as the Bricktown District. It is really cool down there. We ate dinner at a place called Toby Keith's I Love This Bar and Grill. It was a lot of fun and the girls enjoyed it. We were sat by a window that overlooks the River walk and the girls loved watching the boats and people go by. After we ate, we went and bought tickets to ride the boat down the river walk. The girls enjoyed the boat ride and the weather was perfect for it. We saw some cool stuff and the girls loved seeing the ducks on the river.
After the boat ride, we headed back to the hotel to get in some swim time. The girls love the pool and the hot tub. Tessa kept going from one to the other and would not stay for any amount of time in one place. She thoroughly enjoyed herself. :) Lydia showed daddy how she can swim to him without floaties on. Now, understand, she has never had swim lessons, but she can make it from the steps to daddy without floaties on. It is not pretty or graceful, but it is a start.
After swimming we went back up to the room and put the girls in bed. They fell asleep pretty quickly compared to their normal bedtime antics. :) Swimming must have worn them out. Joel and I got to enjoy some quiet time and just sit and talk and watch college football. What an awesome end to a great day. The next morning, we got up and ate breakfast there at the hotel and then we hit the pool again. After swimming, we loaded up and headed home.
For as short as our little get-a-way was, not more than 24 hours, it was just what we all needed. We just hung out as a family the rest of the weekend, and hit the park and daddy even got to take Lydia to school on Tuesday because he was off work on Tuesday as well. He also picked her up after school and she thought that was just the coolest thing ever.
So, I hope you all had a great Labor day weekend as well, and enjoy your short week!
